bathroom renovation

Our client was frustrated with this hard-to-use, seemingly large bathroom that was in dire need of a makeover.  As can be seen from the original layout the flow had been largely compromised by the addition of a hot water cupboard in the corner of the room.  This had resulted in the need for a shower over bath, which given the overall dimensions of the room seemed an inefficient use of space. Furthermore the original position of the vanity provided a very narrow thoroughfare leaving the room feeling cramped and unwelcoming.

The original brief from the client was to provide a new mains pressure hot water cylinder, a shower over bath, vanity and tiles, unaware she could transform her bathroom into an open and inviting space given the finances she had set aside for the renovation.  Imagine her surprise when bathroom designer Richard Burkhead came up with a refreshing new layout that was comfortably within her budget!

Through moving the position of the hot water cylinder to an existing auxiliary cupboard he was able to make room for a spacious 900x900mm curved shower.  The vanity was also moved to the opposite wall to further enhance flow and user-friendliness, thus creating space for a much needed heated towel ladder.  To bring the overall cost back into line with the original budget Richard suggested the client re-use the existing tongue & groove native timber flooring in place of the proposed tiles, in turn creating a feeling of warmth consistent with the nature of the 1950s brick and tile duplex.
