bathroom renovation

Before we begin

Household bathrooms are unique in the sense that on a square meter basis they are perhaps the most design and capital intensive rooms that one can renovate.  As such it is worthwhile to take into account the following considerations:

  • Take time to assess how your current bathroom layout does or doesn’t work for your household, i.e. consider traffic patterns – when is the bathroom busiest?  How many people use the room at one time?
  • Don’t be shy to play around with the positioning of fittings if your current bathroom layout is not working for you.  In most cases the fittings are easily moved within the confines of the bathroom.  To some extent it is also relatively easy to alter the structure of the room, i.e. move walls, entrances etc.  This is the time to consider what your ideal bathroom will look like.
  • Take time to view friends and relatives bathrooms and decide what elements of those you like (and dislike).  There are also a number of worthwhile publications to browse for inspiration, i.e. Trends, Kitchens & Bathrooms Quarterly, Habitat, NZ Home & Garden etc.
  • Establish a budget. This is perhaps the most difficult aspect of planning your new bathroom but unless you have a limitless supply of money it is also the most important factor governing your renovation project.  Your designer will work within the parameters of your budget and will keep you on track throughout the entire design phase.

The more information you can supply us the better equipped we will be to understand and cater for your specific requirements.  Furthermore you will alleviate much of the guesswork we sometimes face ensuring you will receive an accurate and meaningful estimate.
